Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez has suffered an abdominal strain and will definitely miss Arsenal’s second match of the Premier League season.
The Chilean has been linked with a move away from Arsenal with Paris Saint Germain reportedly making an offer of £80million for his services.
And Wenger says that Sanchez will be out of the Gunners first two matches of the season against Leicester City and Stoke City.
“Alexis Sanchez is out for a while,” Wenger said during a press conference on Wednesday. “He had an abdominal strain and could be out for one or two weeks. He will not play against Stoke.
“Sanchez has been focused, but when you have treatment on medical bench it is not easy.”
Arsenal begin the Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Leicester at the Emirates on Friday and Wenger is happy with how pre-season has gone.
“I feel we are good level of physical preparation, all the players got a good number of minutes in pre-season,” Wenger continued.
“What matters now is that we win and start in a strong way, which we did not do last season.”
